WELCOME to the Cowley Orchestra Website.

WHAT IS COWLEY ORCHESTRA?
We are a small play-through orchestra, largely sight-reading through 6 or 7 pieces in an evening.

WHAT MUSIC DOES COWLEY ORCHESTRA PLAY?
The orchestra originated over 60 years ago and has accumulated its own library of over 350 sets of music, and we sometimes hire from the Light Music Society. A typical evening might include: My Fair Lady, a Haydn symphony, a Gershwin arrangement, Lustspiel, Teddy Bears' Picnic, Fingal's Cave, The ostracised Imp, Le Boulevardier. We welcome all players without audition.

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF COWLEY ORCHESTRA?
The most important aim of Cowley Orchestra is that all the players have
an enjoyable evening of music making in an informal relaxed and friendly setting. Incidentally it also offers a low-key way to try out or perhaps get back into playing in an orchestral setting. It can definitely help with practising sight-reading.

WHEN DOES COWLEY ORCHESTRA REHEARSE?
Wednesday evenings during term time 7.00pm to 9.00pm. (Terms are linked to The Oxford Academy dates.)
